Te Ahumairangi, the ground floor of the National Library. Enter near the Ra and waka, from where we extend out manaakitanga, and the Kaiarahi team will welcome you and guide you to spaces, places or people who can help you discover our collections and services.

Come to work, meet people, enjoy the galleries and programmes, and have a bite to eat. Head upstairs to use the Alexander Turnbull Library Reading Rooms and visit the Turnbull Gallery.

If you are looking for something tailored to the needs of your group or school, contact us to arrange a customised experience that suits you perfectly. When your group arrives at the National Library, the Learning Facilitation staff will host you and help you out – we’re here to make your visit the best it can be.

Explore the Alexander Turnbull collections and resources from all around New Zealand, including New Zealand on Screen and Archives New Zealand, through our digital interactives.

Settle down in the AV pods, and expand your brain with TED Talks, delight in the creativity of Mix and Mash, or revel in our nation’s music through Play it Strange.

Search dates, names or places that matter to you with Lifelines, a one-of-a-kind way of finding your heritage in the collections. Recapture your past or your family, whanau, hapu or iwi history, create a lifeline and email it to yourself.

On your way to HOME for lunch or while you are waiting for your take away coffee, make sure you check out our retail area. This small but perfectly formed space features a treasure trove of unique and beautiful items that showcase some of our most talented artists. Choose from beautiful books, designer gifts, and original artworks – indulge your curiosity.
