A vibrant evening of experimental films, stimulating talks and a celebration of Len Lye.
Join Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision’s Sarah Davy and Len Lye biographer Roger Horrocks for a presentation on the process, inspiration and impact of artist Len Lye (1901 – 1980).
Lye was fascinated by the concept of composing with motion and he pioneered techniques of direct filmmaking – scratching and painting directly onto the celluloid. Lye’s experimental films are the subject of our new online exhibition, Free Radical: Len Lye at 120, which was launched to mark the 120th anniversary of Lye’s birth.
Curated in collaboration with the Len Lye Foundation, this is the first time Lye’s films have been made freely available online.
