The Alexander Heritage and Research Library focuses on family and local history resources for New Zealand, with the primary focus being Wanganui and the Whanganui geographic region.

A member of the Wanganui District Library staff and a volunteer from the Wanganui Branch of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists are available each afternoon to guide you in your research.

As searching for information can be a very personal journey, please remember to respect each other’s privacy at all times and be sensitive when offering help.

For your personal security you may be asked to hand in your bags or personal items by a staff member, who will place them in a locked room.

If you are unable to visit the Alexander Heritage & Research Library, staff are able to undertake research for a fee. Please contact us for details.
