Join us in celebrating Puanga and Matariki at the Wellington Botanic Garden ki Paekākā. This special planting in the Display Garden represents Puanga and the Matariki whetū (star) cluster.
Putaputawētā plants were chosen for this display, each representing a different whetū in the Matariki cluster. Accompanied by signs, these plants invite you to contemplate the significance of each star and its role in the Māori New Year celebrations.
Come and explore this unique display, deepen your understanding, and take a moment to reflect on the meanings behind these significant stars. Whether you're familiar with Matariki or new to its celebrations, this display offers a thoughtful and enriching experience for all.
This is the first year of this display and the plants are still young. We will continue to celebrate Puanga and Matariki each year as the plants grow to maturity.
