Here Mai Ki Whanganui - Welcome to Whanganui’s biggest party!

This coming January from Friday 17 to Monday 20, Whanganui - recently awarded New Zealand’s most beautiful city - will put on its biggest party. We have three days and three nights of vintage themed fun and experiences to entertain and enthrall you.

Whanganui Vintage Weekend is about celebrating the very best of every era, be it magnificent machinery, fabulous fashion, beautiful buildings, magical music or fantastic fare, it has it all and then some. It’s our eighth year and we have the biggest programme yet!

Traditional entertainment and events include: Whanganui Retro Market, the Mainstreet Caboodle, the Vintage Fair and the Riverside Shindig; and we are very excited that this year we have even more available across the long weekend with the Billy Webb Challenge featuring NZ Olympian rowing stars on Sunday.

Adding to the entertainment and events are a number of fabulous vintaged themed activities delivered by enthusiast members of the Whanganui community: there's music, art, culture, improve, ballroom dancing, heritage walks, high teas and so much more.

The NZI Magnificent Machines offers so many rides, sites and experiences for all ages - Vintage Car Club events (park ups, rallies, cruises), Steam Traction Engine trailer rides, riverboat rides, rail car rides, jigger rides, scenic flights in Air Chathams 1945 DC3, Heritage bus tours and so much more.

Whanganui Vintage Weekend is centred on the downtown area and along the banks of the Whanganui River however the streets, the skies, the river and some farfetched rural destinations are also party of the party, as magnificent machines take people on vintage inspired adventures.
