You are invited to come along and create a wishing star to display in the glowing community art mural at the Whangārei Central Library.

It may not look like much from the outside....but step inside this unique installation and glow amongst the stars! We would love for as many of our community members to come along to our craft workshops and create a personal wishing star to display in the glowing mural.

Hiwa I te rangi is one of the nine stars of the Matariki cluster. Known as the wishing star, it is to Hiwa that you can send your wishes for the year ahead.- similar to wishing upon a star, or making a new year resolution. We hope to fill our mural with our hopes, dreams and aspirations for the coming Māori New Year.
The community mural will be set up for the duration of the Puanga Matariki Festival. It will be open for viewing from 31st May - 30th June within the Library opening hours and will feature a magical artwork by local artist, Josie Selkirk.

Set times and dates apply for the craft workshops:
Sunday 2nd June - 10:30am - 12:30pm
Thursday 6th June - 10:30am - 12:30pm
Saturday 15th June - 10:30am - 12:30pm
Thursday 20th June - 10:30am - 12:30pm

No need to register in advance. Children must be supervised. Please do not touch or write on the feature art piece inside!

Special thanks to Whangārei District Council and Creative Northland for sponsoring this project. And to the Whangārei Library for hosting this project.
