Morning People is turning 8, and to celebrate we’re taking over the impossibly majestic St Matthew in the City with DJs Kadyn Webster and Aunty El!

On the winter solstice and under the auspicious gaze of an early-morning full moon, St Matthew in the City is opening its doors for a sweaty morning rave. Vaulted timber ceilings 20 metres up, majestic stone arches and stained glass - this venue has to be experienced to be believed.

DJs Kadyn Webster and Aunty El will be leading from the front with heavyweight dancefloor pressure, taking the pulpit for a Saturday service like no other.

Straight from the afterhours, DJ and producer Kadyn Webster is a techno champion. He’s played our finest festivals including Shipwrecked, Rhythm and Vines and 121 Festival, his releases have charted on Beatport techno lists, and he’s supported some of the most revered names in electronic music including Ritchie Hawtin, Nina Kraviz and Carl Cox (oh yes oh yes!).

Joining Kadyn is seasoned party-starter and dancefloor weapon Aunty El. Aunty El from Ngāti Raukawa ki Ōtaki has been serving up dancefloor heat across the country, steadily making a name for herself and chalking up appearances at some of the country’s best loved festivals including Homegrown, Rhythm and Vines, Rhythm and Alps and 121 Festival.

As it’s our birthday, we’re switching things up a bit from our usual mid-week antics, and will be partying on a Saturday, at the slightly later (and longer) time of 7:00am - 9:00am.

In usual Morning People fashion, dance-floor shenanigans will be served alongside complimentary Altezano Brothers coffee, All Good bananas and ice-cold Karma kombucha.

To celebrate eight times around the sun and in Morning People birthday tradition, we’ll be dressing fancy – feel free to join us! Zebra prints, ball gowns, smoking jackets, dressing gowns, frocks, pajamas… anything you think says happy birthday Morning People, let’s party!

This is one not to miss!

Oh, and St Matthews is awesome. Known for championing social justice and upholding human rights, St Matthews is dedicated to serving the marginalised - it was a leader in the protests against apartheid, is committed to reducing extreme poverty, and since way back in the 1970s has been one of the few churches in vocal support of LGBQTI+ communities. Ka rawe!
