MATA-FRIKI is a fun twilight event for the whānau to have a collective kanikani on a large scale dancefloor. In recognition of the promise of new beginnings that comes with Matariki and Te Tau Hou Māori, we invite you to come and experience an elevated Whakamana (Movement for Joy) class with Māori contemporary dance artist Tiaki Kerei (Jack Gray)

Tiaki ’s popular Whakamana community dance class was founded in 2019 here at Corban Estate and has since become a global movement, with Tiaki sharing its values in unique places all around the world such as California, Hawaii & Singapore. Allowing space for bodies of all ages, stages, and mobilities Whakamana is an inclusive practice that encourages presence and authenticity, offering a pathway to the embodiment of harikoa - connecting to joy through a Māori lens.

MATA-FRIKI will be an energised chance for free movement and to celebrate our connections to whenua, strengthening our personal connections to te ao Māori.

At the end of the session, we will come back down to earth with the opportunity for connection and sharing over shared kai after the class.

We encourage all of you to dress in dazzling clothing.

All welcome.

Please bring a plate and koha if you can.
