Our journey includes a wander to discover, identify, taste, and discuss freely growing wild edible plants. This immersive, outdoor, multi-sensory learning experience covers:
Basic principles of sustainable and ethical foraging and wild harvesting
Botanical names of plants and their various common names
Confident identification of 10-20 wild plants, including details about lookalikes and plants to avoid
Nutritional and medicinal properties of each plant, along with simple home remedies
Preparation techniques for maximum nutrition and flavor, with discussions on easy recipes and cooking tips
Folklore and history of each plant, offering fascinating and often amusing stories from our ancestors
Feel empowered with the skills and knowledge to deepen your connection to food, enhance local food resilience, and secure your own supply throughout the natural cycles of the seasons. After this workshop, you can skip the supermarket and gather your own wild greens for dinner on the way home.
Commence the experience with a cup of herbal tea, concluding the session with the enjoyment of a delicious snack crafted from seasonally available wild ingredients—ranging from wild salads to weedy pesto, pickled greens, or herb-infused butter, depending on the season.
Class sizes are limited to provide ample space for questions, so secure your spot early to avoid missing out. Upon booking, you'll receive an email with the exact location and further details for the workshop, held in Raumati South, Kapiti, New Zealand.
