Homegrown Botanica

Explore the wonders of Wild Edible Weeds Foraging Workshops, situated in Homegrown Botanica's wild garden in Raumati South. Embark on a journey into nature, uncovering a world teeming with wild, edible plants.
This workshop, centered on abundant, delicious, and nutritious edible weeds and commonly found plants, will leave you enthusiastic about foraging in your own backyard and local neighborhood.

During this immersive, outdoor, multi-sensory learning , we will:
- Delve into the basic principles of sustainable and ethical foraging and wild harvesting.
- Learn the botanical names of plants along with their various common names.
- Confidently identify 10-20 wild plants, including details about lookalikes and toxic plants to avoid.
- Explore the nutritional and medicinal properties of each plant, discovering how to prepare simple healing remedies at home.
- Understand how to prepare each plant for maximum nutrition and flavor, discussing easy recipes and cooking tips.
- Uncover the folklore and history of each plant, hearing fascinating and often amusing stories that help us connect with the plants and our ancestors.

Leave the workshop feeling empowered with the skills and knowledge needed to deepen your connection to food, bolster local food resilience, and enhance security throughout the natural cycles of the seasons.

Say goodbye to the supermarket; instead, gather your own wild greens on the way home for a delightful dinner. Commence the session with a cup of herbal tea and conclude it by savoring a wildly delicious snack crafted with seasonally available wild ingredients. This culinary adventure varies with the seasons, featuring delights such as a wild salad, weedy pesto, pickled greens, or herb-infused butter.

Consider checking out my Foraging Guides before or after the workshop for future reference.

As class sizes are limited to ensure ample space for questions, it's advisable to book early and secure your spot. After booking, an email with the exact location and further details for the workshop will be sent to you.
