This course is for those who want to grow their own food this season, whether you're a beginner or an intermediate gardener or food grower!

You may have attended our Food Gardens I: PRE-Spring Workshop or you may not have, either way you are welcome to join this workshop, as the content will cater to those with and without food growing experience or prior learning.

Spring is here by the start of September, and it is a vital time to get your garden going, to make the most of our short growing season in Marlborough.

Join us and learn tips and techniques for growing veggies in your own garden and creating perennial food forests, using methods inspired by the revolutionary ecological practice of Permaculture. The lessons can be applied to any site, large or small and are suitable for the New Zealand, and particularly the Marlborough climate. This is a great intro for newbies, and an opportunity for slightly more experienced gardeners to learn new ways of doing things.

What skills will I learn?

Learn how to assess your site and the sectors acing on your garden for the best results.

Learn about soil in a practical way, and how to build healthy soil and compost.

Learn how to maintain and care for your vegetable garden, particularly what to do at this time of year in Marlborough.

How is the course presented?

10:00am - Learn and discuss soil and plant health, for vegetable gardens and food forests.
11:00am - Take a tour of Midori's established food gardens and understand the methods underpinning success in the garden.
12:00am - Hands-on activity, with a focus on soil and plant health in Spring.
13:00pm - Lunch by Simply Bento

Who is hosting the course?

Dan de Klerk, Nomadic Permaculture: With a decade of experience practicing Permaculture, Dan specializes in teaching Permaculture design, food growing, and sustainable living practices. His online course has helped over 270 students to grow their own food at home. His expertise extends to community-driven ecosystem restoration, consulting, and empowering others along their sustainability journey.

Midori Matsumura, Simply Bento: Inspired by Dan's online course many years ago, Midori dreams of transforming her land into a thriving oasis and providing fresh produce for her family while benefiting natural ecosystems. She runs a health-focused sushi catering business from home and would like to grow ingredients to feed into the healthy, fresh meals that she creates. Over three years, she has accumulated significant practical knowledge and insights to share.
