‘Two lovers walk through a high, bright night’. So ends the poem of love and forgiveness from which Schoenberg drew this lush, Romantic masterpiece for string sextet. Then from bare, cold night in a German forest to balmy days in Tuscany, Lauren Bennett takes us through Tchaikovsky’s holiday reminiscences of happy times.
