Hutt Valley Orchestra's first concert for 2024 features pieces from Russia, Ukraine, Belgium and New Zealand.
The concert will open with Prokofiev's quirky "Lieutenant Kije Suite". After this, our soloist Catherine Harrison performs De Beriot's Violin concerto no 9. Catherine won the Hutt Valley Orchestra Cup presented to the most talented player at the Hutt Valley Performing Arts Competition in 2023.
In the second half of the concert, we play two reflective pieces: the moving "Remember Parihaka" by Anthony Ritchie and Silvestrov's "Prayer for the Ukraine". The concert finishes in a lively mood with Tchaikovsky's dramatic "Capriccio Italien".
