Part of the Pōneke Festival of Contemporary Dance 2024
New Zealand School of Dance second year contemporary students.

In the vast landscape of artistic expression, questions often arise regarding the essence and accessibility of art. The second-year NZSD contemporary dance students invite you to explore these inquiries with curiosity and openness through their self-choreographed show, But What Does It Mean?

This show features 12 works, each choreographed by the second-year students on one another, encouraging a gentle inquiry into the nature of artistry and its significance in our lives. Through their choreographic explorations, you are invited to ponder the multifaceted nature of art and its potential to evoke diverse emotions and interpretations.

In contemplating the question, "Is it art?" we encourage you to embrace the inherent subjectivity of artistic expression, recognizing that meaning can vary widely from one observer to another. This show acknowledges that while art can sometimes be perceived as serious or unattainable, it also has the power to inspire joy, connection, and personal growth. Join us in this journey of discovery, where every performance is a conversation and every interpretation is valid.
