Are you scared of death? Have you ever wondered if there’s more to existence? Do you like jazz?

Answer these questions and more as award winning performer Em Barrett immerses you in her strange and twisted dark comedy; all from the perspective of a fly.

For too long, humans have been stealing, swatting, and sweating on planet Earth. Neglecting their role in the ecosystem and building their own self pitying, oily global enterprise. All the while flies have been cleaning up their mess- literally! And all they get is a smack over the head with a rolled up newspaper.

Well one fly has had enough.

Time for you to drop that wad of cash and hear the truth- straight outta the fly’s proboscis.

Performed exclusively in the style of Bouffon Clown, PURE GRIME promises a fresh take on human existence. With support from Barbarian Productions’ head clown Thomas LaHood, this original comedy seeks to explore humanity’s relationship to death and decay; asking human’s to question their own relationship to not only flies but themselves.

“I really love how this show tickles our intellect at the same time as tickling our base human funny bones. It is grotesque and gross, but isn’t that what we are as humans? As much as we try not to be, we are. And we must know that and laugh at that. No spoilers, but you’re likely to feel very, ugh, seen… I know I am.” Gin Mabey, Theatreview

An interactive, visceral, and thought provoking work. A celebration of the grotesque and the joys that arise from it.

In September, PURE GRIME is heading up to Auckland and Whāngarei Fringe festivals for the first time. Help us to raise some sweet sweet cash to keep The Fly flying!

Two years ago Em found herself at Barbarian Productions with an inkling of an idea; flies, humanity, and bouffon clown. It was at their creative practice week, Ruckus, where The Fly found its wings and PURE GRIME was born. After extensive development, test audiences, A+ bouffonery and mentorship from Barbarian’s own Thomas La Hood, Em debuted her mind bending comedy at the New Zealand Fringe festival this year. It was lovingly received with screams, hysterical laughter, and the perfect balance of disgust. With ambitions to tour the show up north, it seems only fitting to come back home. For one night only, PURE GRIME is back at Vogelmorn Bowling Club for the ultimate celebration of disgust and human despair.

Come and get grimey with us. Your support will contribute to our travel costs, marketing and accommodation as we venture up North. Koha entry.

Ngā mihi to Barbarian Productions and Vogelmorn Bowling Club for kindly hosting us for this special evening. Thank you for your constant support throughout the creation and execution of this show.
