Te Ao o Taonga Puoro (The World of Singing Treasures) is a presentation by Bob Bickerton which explores the wonderful
world of taonga puoro, the traditional musical instruments of Māori.

The presentation features 20 different traditional Māori instruments including pākuru, kōhatu, tumutumu, pūrerehua, porotiti, hue puruhau, poi awhiowhio, kōauau ponga ihu, pūtōrino, kōauau, pōrutu, ororuarangi, nguru, pūtatara, pūpū harakeke, karanga ruru, karanga weka, karanga manu, and pūkāea.

As well as demonstrating the instruments, the programme features a number of pūrākau (legends) that give background stories to the taonga and also talks about how the sounds of the instruments were lost and then revived by the group Haumanu. It includes a Q&A session at the conclusion.

Come along, listen to the beautiful sounds of these remarkable instruments: gourds, flutes, and the music of the wind. This is an amazing opportunity to enjoy beautiful music that haunts and lifts the spirit.
