She is Kōpū i te ao, Parearau i te pō and if her teke could talk it would sound like this.

KŌPŪ is a cheeky ballad sharing the song of our young wāhine Māori as they navigate this world, hairy nipples first, following in the footsteps of our naughty nannies from the kauta.

Our kāhui whetū of multi-talented performers weave live music, performance, poetry, and poi to share a hilarious honest and no hold barred account of their experiences of wāhinetanga now; The day and night duality of being fiercely everything at once.

Originally commissioned by Auckland Arts Festival and developed by Te Pou Theatre, KŌPŪ premiered at Te Pou in May 2023 to standing ovations and sell out shows. The work then toured to Kia Mau Festival in June 2023 with more sold-out performances.

"a series of beautifully crafted vignettes superbly performed" - Theatreview May 2023, Lexie Mattheson
"Kōpū is a hilarious celebration, liberation, and at times, a gut-wrenching “me too sis” to wāhine in a world where Western womanhood is the standard." - New Zealand Herald, May 2023, Candice Luke
"Kōpū is the riotous and empowering thrill ride through the experiences of wāhine Māori that everyone needs to see." - Ratworld, May 2023, Amy Cotter
