Join us for this special one-night-only event in the Perpetual Guardian Planetarium with Dutch composer Jan-Bas Bollen, featuring spectacular visuals and a unique, ethereal sound.

The HyperTheremin is a touchless, magical, musical instrument designed by Dutch composer Jan-Bas Bollen. It allows him to create captivating sonic and visual poetry through manipulation of invisible controls, revealed only by a precise choreography of his hands in space. Cleverly programmed faders and switches are positioned in a virtual, multi-dimensional console, physically detached from the real world. Bollen’s feedback consists of the choreography’s result itself: sounds from loudspeakers and visuals from projectors.

Jan-Bas Bollen studied composition at the Royal Conservatory The Hague. Internationally active as a composer, performer, and educator, he creates music for soloists, ensembles, theatre productions, and installation art. In many of his works he employs live-electronics with visuals, often employing cutting-edge technologies such as the HyperTheremin. He regularly collaborates with dancers and choreographers, and also plays electric bass, DJ’s, and produces club tracks under the moniker BAZR.

This performance will be the first stop on Bollen’s tour of New Zealand, and the only performance featuring 360’ Planetarium Dome Projection visuals.
