Join Dagmar Dyck, the curator of our current major exhibition Friends + Family as she talks about the process of bringing together this exciting collective of artists.

Dyck is a well-recognised interdisciplinary artist and educator herself, as well as the mother of Ercan Cairns, featured artist in the exhibition.

We hear from her on how she feels the Western art education experience curbs our youth’s creativity and fails to celebrate a Kaupapa Māori and Kaupapa Pasifika way of educating. Her son found his creative community and his artistic voice amongst her peers and through an Artist in Residence programme in Tonga.

Friends + Family is a group exhibition from emerging artist Ercan Cairns. His story reflects his unique access to some of Aotearoa’s most treasured senior artists; Fatu Feu’u, Emily Karaka, Donn Ratana, Tēvita Lātū, Taniela Petelō, Terje Koloamatangi, Alexis Neal and Colin Gibbs.
