You came and helped plant 5000 trees sponsored by Trees that Count - now its time to secure their survival with a search and rescue mission.
Search - by searching out the natives hidden amongst the tall grasses and weeds that have flourished over summer.
Rescue - by clearing the grass and weeds from around each plant and mulch to keep moisture in.
Maintenance is the most critical part of ecological restoration success. Without regular maintenance for the first three years, plants wouldn't survive due to grass competition. But we need your help - 5000 trees is a lot but many hands make light work.
This mass planting on 1.4 hectares of land, off De Ville Place, Burwood, will provide an important buffer between the housing and the precious Waikākāriki / Horseshoe Lake wetland reserve. Help us green the red zone.
There is off-street car parking available at 217E New Brighton Road. Closest bus stops are on routes 7-Queenspark and 60-Southshore.
Rangers will provide a BBQ to reward hungry volunteers.
