Artworks theatre is excited to present a film evening featuring a wonderful and diverse array of short films covering multiple art forms; from theatre and dance through to sculpture and visual arts.
The evening will be led by Tūi Matira Rapiri - Ransfield, a highly-skilled Māori performing artist. It is particularly exciting and appropriate to be able to feature “Karanga” by artistic director Merenia Gray; it is a dance and spoken word film exploring the intersectionality of descendants both Māori and Pākehā (European).
The evening will also feature a range of films made on the island over past years including; films made by Baraka of Ember Vision, a 2020 Tuatara Collective Matariki show film, an edited part of a documentary linked to the Piritahi Marae and more soon to be announced. The evening will run till roughly 9pm with an informal tea, biscuits and kōrero after the event. It is hoped that this will be the first of many art film nights as the Matariki Festival grows over the years.
