Alfred Memelink

Local artist and Petone seaside gallery owner, Alfred Memelink, made the most of two recent Covid isolations and spent the time painting in his studio. He painted a collection of watercolours based on photographs he had taken recently of around the Wellington region.

Alfred considers Wellington to be a mecca for artists with it’s beautiful harbour and coastline + wonderful suburbs, old and new, some with views, some without. Hillside houses with red tin roofs dotted around the harbour and a long and varying magnificent coastline both rugged and tranquil provide heaps of inspiration for any artist. Watercolours are Alfred’s favourite medium to work with which provide a perfect way to capture the varying invigorating moods of Wellington

Alfred’s art and gift gallery. located towards the eastern end of Petone foreshore has been open for nine years and showcases art in many genres by over 300 local and NZ artists. Despite being in charge, this is only the 2nd time since he opened in 2014 when he has invited himself to exhibit.

Free entry + free and easy parking right outside.

Exhibition season Fri 24 June (Matariki Holiday) – Sunday 24 July
