Koka'anga means making Ngatu.

IVI bring with them a growing commitment to exploring a pattern of learning together and supporting collective art practices in diverse spaces.

Together with Ruha Fifita and alongside her work Lototō, you are warmly invited to spend time with the group, as they continue to work and learn together.

IVI is a collaboration of artists learning together about how collective indigenous art practices can be utilised to support community-building efforts that serve the wellbeing of neighbourhoods and families in diverse settings. What we do and how we do it is shaped by the ongoing relationships between a growing network of makers, mentors and families. Each collaborator enriches and widens the learning shared and gained together.

A feature which has proven central to their work is having dedicated learning spaces or places that are nurtured together by many as homes of creating & living culture. In Aotearoa, IVI is delighted to be working within a number of dedicated spaces that includes homes as well as community centres and studios.

To this gathering - we gather as collaborators of LAKA - a makers' space in Onehunga that has become a home to us all - which is supporting a regular rhythm of koka’anga, facilitating the many forms of art-making in preparation for ceremony and exploring how to facilitate a sustainable exchange of resources and knowledge between and within artist-led spaces.
