Join Lucy Smith, a local kairaranga (weaver), as she guides you through the process of weaving a small, basic kete (basket). This kete will be a pocket-sized, two-cornered basket that you can keep a taoka (treasure) in. It will make a perfect keepsake or gift for somebody you love.

All materials are provided, and you will be working with traditional, natural resources.

The workshop will take approximately two hours.

This workshop is suitable for people with some weaving ability, for ages 14 and over.

Make sure you also check out our free Special Exhibition, Kura Pounamu: Our Treasured Stone, in the 1877 Gallery before it closes. Kura Pounamu tells the story of this most precious of stones, its significance to Māori, and its enduring value from ancient times until today.
