We will walk up the Translator Road to the southern trig of Whakapunake, then complete the round trip by walking down the ridge towards Mahurangi Station. About 18 km walking and 750m altitude to gain walking up the Translator Road. An exceptional view point on a clear day. From the start of the Translator Road to the first gate is Pohaturoa Station and the summit and along ridge heading southwest is Mahurangi Station. If the weather is unsuitable for Whakapunake, a back-up plan could be a walk along the
Nuhaka – Opoutama railway line [M], leaving at 8.30 am, Cost - $25
Railway line walk from old Nuhaka railway station platform to Opoutama platform. About 12km, and 4 – 5 hours walking. No tunnels but some bridges over rivers and road. Lovely sea views along the coast. We will try to organise leaving a car at the other end before starting the walk.
