Explorer's Club January 2022

Led by trained educators, Otago Museum's Explorers Club is fun, interactive, and engaging; not to mention that there is plenty of time to play in Tuhura Science Centre where children can take a bike-ride with a skeleton, zoom down the three-story slide and explore the Tropical Forest among hundreds of butterflies.

Each day is based around a theme, and there is an array of arts and science activities for each session. Your child will make amazing crafts, learn about new cultures, and discover how the world works. Book one day, or all. Sessions fill up quickly, so book now. We would love to see you again!

Monday 17 January // Kiwiana
Kia ora cuz, kei te pēhea koe? Celebrate our shared culture as Kiwis with some awesome arts and crafts and learning about our vibrant Kiwiana culture.

Tuesday 18 January // Powerful Plants
The life-giving power of plants is often underestimated, but we would be lost without them. Learn about the ways that plants make our lives possible.

Wednesday 19 January // Up and Away
From creatures to construction, find out about the fantastic features of flight as we explore the world in the sky above us.

Thursday 20 January // Precious Penguins
We’re celebrating International Penguin Awareness Day at the Museum these holidays! Let's explore where penguins make their homes with our waddling little friends.

Friday 21 January // The great Pacific Ocean
Join us today on a voyage of discovery across the largest, deepest, and most explosive ocean on earth. Home to continents and atolls, find out what makes our ‘corner’ of the world so special.

Monday 24 January // Tiny but Mighty
They say that great things come in small packages and nature is no different. Get up close with the little organisms with which we share our world, from plankton and bed bugs, to tics and tardigrades

Tuesday 25 January // Sea Monsters
Otago Museum’s newest and most exciting exhibition, Sea Monsters, showcases pre-historic fossils from far away… and not so far away. Let’s dive down deep to a time when some monsters moved from the land to the sea. But be warned – there’s not a dinosaur in sight!

Wednesday 26 January // Ice Age
What is an ice age? Was there only one? Did people live in caves with wolves and eat woolly mammoths? Join us to sort Ice Age facts from fiction.

Thursday 27 January // The Science of Magic!
Or is it the magic of science? I can never remember which way round it goes… What happens to a ‘magic’ trick when we know how it happens? It loses its magic, but not its wonder – it becomes science! Come and explore science and magic on this day of tricks and trials, discovery and deceit!

Friday 28 January // Amazing Asia
Konnichi wa, Nǐ hǎo, Kumustá – greetings from Asia. Explore our planet’s largest and most diverse continent in an amazing Asian adventure.

Whole day sessions only: $60 per child 10% discount when you book ten days.
Ages 5 – 12, fully supervised, dress for mess!
