The Annual Ploughing matches for 2021 for Oxford Ploughing Assn, North Canterbury Ploughing Match Assn and the Canterbury Clydesdale Club returns. The ploughing fields will be signposted from the entrance to 151 on No 10 Road.
Competitive ploughing involves three categories:
- Vintage ploughing – 2 or 3 furrow ploughs
- Horse team ploughing – two teams of 2 horses
- Silver Plough – modern reversible and conventional
Ploughmen range from the Novice to World ploughing competitors.
Meet the ploughmen from throughout Canterbury and Marlborough, practicing the ancient skill of ploughing the land to expose the soil and weeds to the elements over the winter season in preparation for spring sowing of crops—before the days of spray and chemicals. A special welcome to potential or retired ploughmen. Contact M Armstrong 027 660 0743 for entries.
Bring a thermos and picnic to enjoy the day. Please be aware that horses and tractors need a lot of space to turn at the end of rows. Your safety is your responsibility.
(Sorry, no dogs permitted on this property, cameras welcome.)
