Christchurch-based art consultant and art writer, Grant Banbury will present an illustrated lecture focusing on three works from the gallery’s collection. Initially studying at University of Canterbury School of Fine Arts, he later graduated with a Post Graduate Diploma in Art Curation from the University of Melbourne. During the late 1990s through to 2008 he was director of Campbell Grant Galleries and represented over thirty New Zealand artists. Two of the works he will discuss were purchased from his gallery by former director Dr Fiona Ciaran. Grant has spent decades researching noted landscape artist Doris Lusk (1916-1990) and will contextualize her painting North Canterbury Landscape (1964), a recent acquisition to the gallery’s collection.
