What Is Kizomba?
The dance from Angola is danced very smoothly, slowly and sensuously, and with very fluid movements.

In addition, frequent simultaneous hip rotations coordinated between dance partners, particularly in the quieter refrains of the music. and the music is characterized by a slower and usually very romantic rhythm, sung generally in Portuguese.

It’s a slow sexy dance. Partners dance quite close. Music is generally sung in Portuguese but these days also many influence of Semba and Zouk.

Alex & Beverly - Danca Wellington
Beverly and Alex are Kizomba instructors for Danca based in Wellington, New Zealand. They are the winners of the South Island Latin Dance Championships 2020 Kizomba division.

Beverly is a life-long dancer with formal training in ballet and has been part of numerous dance teams in Hong Kong before discovering Kizomba in 2017. She is a qualified Astanga/Vinyasa yoga instructor and has a deep understanding of body mechanics. She loves seeing people stay active in a fun way.

Alex has been a concert pianist for over two decades and has been all about music since he was barely four years old. After discovering Kizomba, he was fascinated and has since become a highly sought after Kizomba DJ, frequently streaming sets live and online and gaining international recognition.

Together, their enthusiasm and energy for everything Kizomba is contagious! They have a knack for making concepts easy and clear to understand and infusing this with interesting knowledge of the culture and music."
