Last week we had a circus performance and a wedding at the Your Place Slam, who knows what miscellaneous fuckery, will occur at this week’s open mic! There’s only one way to find out… come!

Viewing on the Zoom Link.
Password will be posted on the Facebook event page, nearer to the event.

We’re live, we’re online, we have talented performers from all over the world on the open mic (message Your Place Events or comment on the event wall, if you wish to sign up) and we are incredibly grateful to have one of the most supportive and appreciative communities I’ve ever had the pleasure of being a part of.

And if all that wasn’t enough already, we also have my extremely good friend and masterfully adept poet – John Englezos – providing us with what, I have no doubt, promises to be a beautiful set of spoken word!

For those that aren’t familiar: John is a freelance photographer, spoken word poet and Melbourne’s 2015 Poetry Slam Champion.

His work has been described as “Pixar in poetry” with his book “If The World Were Upside Down" centring around notions of Hope, Identity, and Wonder.

He was on the first team to represent Australia in 2017 at the National Poetry Slam Championships in Denver, Colorado USA.

John has been a presenter, speaker coach and host for Tedx, runs workshops and one-on-one sessions around poetry and performance is an uncle to five amazing kids and a brother to many.

As always, this event at Your Place is pay-what-you-can-afford, because finances should not be a barrier to art. However, if people do not honour that trust-system then this event becomes unsustainable and cannot continue so if you can afford it, please do – the money goes towards paying our artists and keeping this whole thing up and running.

And if you cannot afford anything, still come along and enjoy the poetry with my blessing (though do please help us out by sharing the event and getting some other folks along – that’d be amazing!) – we believe in human kindness at Your Place, so hopefully, someone who can afford it will pay a bit more and cover you.
