Join us for a two day Postcard Printing Workshop with Artist and Printmaker, Sybille Schlumbom. Sybille is an expert in the area of Japanese Woodcut Printmaking, called Mokuhanga. She is the only tutor of Mokuhanga in New Zealand, and expertly uses her knowledge and skills to gently guide participants through the whole process.

Enjoy a weekend of creativity, learn about mokuhanga (Japanese woodblock printing) in a relaxed, achievable way and take home a variation of your own printed postcards.

You will work with partly pre-cut plates and have thorough demonstrations as well as one on one support on the first day, when you will carve one plate for the two-colour image to print on the second day.

Simple designs will be available, feel free to bring your sketch books and ideas, but keep in mind that might have to adapt your ideas to the technique.

Japanese woodcut differs from European woodcut in three particular ways:

- the application of the water based inks by brush
- the use of a hand held baren for printing
- the use of kento registration marks, carved directly into the block

You will learn about the tools required, where to buy them, and the paper that is used for this style of printing.

A $25 materials cost applies on the day – paid directly to the tutor.
