CJC Creative Jazz Club Aotearoa proudly presents NZ debut of Keith Price's music for Double Quartet

The Keith Price Double Quartet is an adventurous eight-piece group of musicians that explores jazz improvisation through the vehicles of groove and rhythm. The group's debut performance was of a new and largely spontaneous soundtrack for the classic western film "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" (treated as a silent film), created as part of Jazz Winnipeg's ground-breaking Nu Sounds Series in 2013. While drawing influence from Miles Davis' electric jazz period (1969-75), the group also incorporates rhythms and approaches from M-BASE, electronic music and world music.

This will be the first exciting performance for the New Zealand incarnation of the project!

“In 2017, guitar wizard Keith Price assembled an all-star crew of local jazz instrumentalists for his double quartet, and created a powerful record that will burrow into your brain more and more with every listen. ” — Sam Thompson of Witchpolice Radio

Featuring:
Roger Manins – sax
Keith Price – guitar
Kevin Field – keys
Joe Kaptien - keys
Oli Holland – electric bass
Cameron McArthur – upright bass
Ron Samsom – drums
Stephen Thomas - drums

Keith Price is a Canadian guitarist and composer who is based in Auckland, New Zealand and is serving as a Lecturer in Jazz at Auckland University. Price learned his first chords from his Grandfather on a dark-red hollow-bodied guitar. At age fifteen, the intensity and rawness of John Coltrane’s expression drew him into the world of jazz. Later, Price studied at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the University of Manitoba before completing undergraduate and graduate degrees in jazz at Brandon University where he studied with internationally recognized pianist and composer Michael Cain.
