In April 2019, hot on the tail of the Perpetual Guardian Sculpture in the Gulf, Waiheke Community Art Gallery is holding a significant show with the theme Sea Conversations.

This exhibition-style show looks to highlight the importance of our oceans through the lens of human impact and climate change.

Curated in conversation with Lisa Waldner, AUT PhD Researcher.

Separate sections will include Virtual Reality installation Ontogeny developed by University of Auckland’s Discovery Art centre at Goat Island, Leigh; New Zealand-based graphic-design on environmental issues, and an interactive ‘design-lab’ area where visitors are invited to spend time designing a response to the exhibition themes.

This exhibition considers our relationship to the sea via three components: a fine art response, the virtual reality piece 'Ontogeny' (courtesy of Mairangi Art Centre) which explores the trials of our native Koura and the inter-tidal zone where visitors can work with Lisa to design their own conversation with the sea as a poster or a social media graphic.
