Gloria! Vivaldi and Purcell by the Scholars Baroque Aotearoa

The first performance of the 2019 Scholars Baroque Aotearoa concert season. The Scholars are joined by Opus Chamber Orchestra - a chamber orchestra of the beloved Opus!

Scholars Baroque Aotearoa perform anthems by Purcell. Not your typical anthems, these anthems are at times quite long and feature interludes for string orchestra. They also feature solos, duets, trios, quartets, interspersed with sections sung by the whole choir.

Also on this programme is the eternal favourite, Gloria, by Antonio Vivaldi, with all its flair and excitement of the high Italian baroque style. Largely remembered as an orchestral writer, Vivaldi's choral works are all but forgotten except for the Gloria which is performed by choirs the world over year after year. It has never lost its lustre.
