Award-winning filmmaker Torsten Hoffman is premiering new documentary “Cryptopia: Bitcoin, Blockchains and the Future of the Internet” in Auckland, in association with Sunrise North Island and Brave New Coin.

Five years after his first film, Torsten Hoffmann revisits Bitcoin and sets out to explore the evolution of the blockchain industry and its new promise. Can this technology, designed to operate independent of trust and within a decentralized network, really provide a robust alternative to the Internet as we know it? This brand new documentary is launching in Australia and New Zealand first before touring throughout the world.

Bitcoin has been called one of the most disruptive technologies of our times, threatening banks by building an alternative and decentralized currency system. Some say that its “blockchain” could provide a blueprint for a better and fairer Internet - challenging the dominating technology giants.

Despite this potential, Bitcoin is undergoing severe price volatility and the community is facing a bitter internal ‘civil war’. Moreover, much of the media coverage is often misinformed or misleading and the general public is still confused about the technology and its larger implications.

Adrian Przelozny, CEO of the Independent Reserve, an Australian crypto-exchange, commented "The theme of this film is Bitcoin, Blockchain and the future of the Internet. The Independent Reserve strongly believes Bitcoin and blockchain will be a ubiquitous part of everyone's future."

Join award-winning director/producer Torsten Hoffmann (Bitcoin: The End of Money As We Know It) on his journey to better understand this decentralised technology and the promise of web3.0. This feature documentary introduces the ‘big brains and big egos’ of this new industry including Andreas Antonopoulos, Laura Shin, Dr. Jemma Green, Charlie Lee, Vitalik Buterin, Dr. Robert Kahn, Preethi Kasireddy, Wences Casares, Samson Mow, Roger Ver, and many more...
