Students are once again at the forefront of political movements, both here and abroad. Join author Sylvia Nissen in discussion with three current student activists, reflecting on what has driven this shift.
The event celebrates the launch of new BWB Text, Student Political Action in New Zealand.

About the Speakers
Sylvia Nissen is author of new BWB Text, Student Political Action in New Zealand, and contributing author to A Careful Revolution, ed. David Hall (2019). She is currently a Lecturer in Environmental Policy at Lincoln University.

Tamatha Paul (Ngāti Awa, Waikato-Tainui) is the current VUWSA President, elected in 2018 as the first wāhine Māori to hold the position in Victoria University's 122-year history. On the 14th May 2019, Tamatha announced her independent candidacy for Wellington City Council for Pukehīnau / Lambton Ward.

Raven Maeder is a national organizer for School Strike 4 Climate in Aotearoa, the current Chair of the UNESCO Aotearoa Youth Leaders, and served on the Victoria University of Wellington Students’ Association as Campaigns Officer in 2017. Her tertiary study focuses on Law and Environment Studies

Jack Liang is an organizer with Pōneke Solidarity Alliance - Ihumātao and a new chapter of Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga in Pōneke, though she does not seek to represent either for this panel. She is currently in her fourth year of a conjoint LLB/BA degree.

Max Rashbrooke (chair) is a journalist, author and academic based in Wellington, well-known for his work on inequality.
