Galatea Theatre: The resident company at Pitt St.
A Real Goodbye is a one hour story about a funeral director trying to persuade the unwilling children of Daphne Eleanor Campbell to let her friends give the deceased woman a real goodbye.
The origins: Funeral directors report that more and more families do not want any kind of funeral for their deceased relatives. The body is picked up, taken to the funeral home and then burnt at the crematorium. No chance for people that loved and were loved by the deceased to tell their stories. Here was life, a whole life – gone now forever. Now not even the ashes are being picked up.
Geoff Allen interviewed Martha-Louise Asmus at Manning Funerals earlier in 2019 and began writing A Real Goodbye. A life is one full of stories and Pitt St will be a house of storytelling.
8pm, Matinees 4pm (no performances Sundays & Mondays).
