Thai Orchid

Thai Orchid is now the oldest Thai Restaurant in Christchurch. Robert Ling, landowner and Architect of Thai Orchid originally designed the building to be Thai Restaurant in 1988. Unfortunately, the “to-be Restaurateurs pulled out 3 months before completion of the building. – A tricky predicament when there were so few Thai people living in Christchurch at the time.

It would be 2 years later Bruce & his Thai Wife founded the Thai Orchid Restaurant in 1987.

For over 32 years Thai Orchid has given Christchurch folks have had the pleasure of Thai Flavours and Thai Hospitality – All Chefs and Kitchen Hands were imported from Thailand (if not already residing here) to ensure ethnicity and one of the first places where Kiwis could Taste Authentic Thai food from professional Thai Chefs.

While many restaurants in the industry were struggling, Jules & Jum decided to take over the baton & challenge to get back the Thai Orchid of old and have spent much effort to regain the original spirit of one of Christchurch’s iconic settings. The whole team are proud to again return to the Number 1 Thai Dining destination in Christchurch.
