Located on the edge of the central city, Al's Bar opened in March 2006. It is the intention of the bar to provide a wide range of New Zealand and international acts, plus catering to emerging and established local acts, at little or no cost to the public.
The interior bar areas are warm, stylish and funky with rimu floors and brick walls. The outside courtyard has a distinctly European flavour with a smokers' area and established trees surrounded by an old brick building. This area is totally enclosed and is available for outdoor gigs.
