Dunedin Fringe fundraiser announced to help affected artists

With the cancellation of the Dunedin Fringe Festival, over 750 creatives, who were set to bring their amazing projects to life, have been deeply affected. Right now they're hurting, with potentially months of financial uncertainty to come. Please show your support by donating to a Boosted campaign for the affected artists. All money raised will go directly to affected 2020 Fringe artists.

Gareth McMillan, Festival Director, announced the said Boosted campaign and other initiatives. He said in a statement:

"If a crisis reveals true character, the Fringe Office is heartened by the outpuring of support (and baked goods) in these difficult times—but if you're like us you're probably wondering what more can be done for artists affected by cancellations and lean times ahead. After much thought, we decided a Boosted campaign is the best platform to enhance the well-being of our creative community.

"All money raised via Boosted will go directly towards 2020 Fringe Artists, who in some cases are thousands of dollars out of pocket. Many patrons have already taken up the option to donate their ticket purchase back to artists in lieu of a refund and the Fringe Office thanks them for their generosity. We've also announced we will support artists by refunding their registration fees and other financial means at our disposal.

"We tautoko those who have adapted and moved into the digital realm but it wasn't the right option for us. Truth be told, the hardworking Fringe team need to look after themselves and after everything we've been through a virtual festival was an adventure for another day.

While everyone has been impacted by this health crisis, freelance creatives—who often exist within tight margins—have the least capacity to withstand the financial impact. And when we emerge from the aftermath of this, we'll need our artists more than ever to assist in the recovery. We're standing behind our artists and hope you will too."

The festival management would also like to thank the support of their partners + funders, artists, venues, volunteers, suppliers and all of the ticket buyers.

Ticket purchasers will be contacted by the ticket provider to organise refunds or for possibility of having their purchase donated to the artists instead.
