UB40 bring their 40th anniversary tour to NZ next year

Worldwide reggae phenomenon UB40 are coming to New Zealand to next year January/February for their '40th Anniversary' tour. Founding members Ali, Astro and Mickey will be playing Napier, Waitangi, Nelson and Christchurch.

Kiwi fans can't get enough of UB40 a new show in Palmerston North has been added. Because of the overwhelming demand, Earlybird ticket allocation has sold out in Napier, Bay of Islands and Nelson venues and only a limited number of tickets remain for Christchurch.

Apart from their 'One Love Festival 2019' appearance, the 2019 tour supports the recent release of their album 'A Real Labour of Love'. Upon the release, the album reached the no. 2 spot on the UK Album Chart and no. 1 spot on the Billboard Reggae Chart. The band's highest chart entry since 1993 'Promises And Lies' was Radio 2's Album Of The Week and received four-star reviews in the Daily Mail and Daily Star who said it "crackles with the energy of their classics."

Recorded and mixed at Dean Street and RAK Studios, 'A Real Labour Of Love' was produced by Ali, whose instantly recognisable voice is augmented by the 'sing-jay' vocal style of Astro. The latter takes the lead on six of the album's 16 tracks, placing the two singers at the helm of an 11-piece band.

As founding members of UB40, singer Ali Campbell, second vocalist Astro and keyboardist Mickey Virtue topped the UK singles chart on three occasions and sold 70 million records as they took their smooth yet rootsy musical blend to all corners of the globe. Between 1983 and 1998, UB40 produced three 'Labour Of Love' albums, bringing hits such as Eric Donaldson's 'Cherry Oh Baby', Lord Creator's 'Kingston Town' and Johnny Osbourne's 'Come Back Darling' to a new, global audience.

With 2019 marking 40 years since UB40's debut performance, the band are prepping their 'greatest hits' setlist that features global smashes including 'Red Red Wine', 'Higher Ground', 'Rat In Mi Kitchen' and 'Come Back Darling'. Ali, Astro & Mickey will be joined on-stage by their incredible eight-piece band plus an incredible line-up of special guests to help celebrate this special anniversary tour.

Get ready to hear UB40's timeless tunes and experience what'll be another set of exhilarating performances from them next year!
