Award-winning magician DYNAMO tours New Zealand for the first time this July

He’s walked on water across the river Thames, levitated above the Shard, walked down the outside of the LA Times Building, made a car appear from light beams, predicted the Soccer World Cup outcome and taken a flight on the side of a bus.

Now, global television star and award-winning magician, DYNAMO, is set to amaze Kiwi fans this July. He will be showcasing his magic stunts at Christchurch's Horncastle Arena where he will be doing two shows, then he will head to Wellington's TSB Bank Arena for another pair of shows before going to the Spark Arena in Auckland where he recently added a matinee performance, for a total of four shows at the venue.

TEG Dainty President and CEO Paul Dainty said he is thrilled to welcome the ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ superstar to New Zealand for the first time: “Dynamo is a supreme master in the art of magic and has made unique connections with a global audience who have truly taken him to their hearts. The ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ tour is one of the biggest box office of recent times, and it’s a privilege to be working with a man of the people who has become the rockstar magician of this generation. It’s a spectacular full production show and to say there’s a WOW factor would be an understatement! This is entertainment of the very highest order.”

Dynamo, whose real name is Steven Frayne, became a superstar of TV when his multiple award-winning television series ‘Magician Impossible’ quickly established him as one of the world’s most popular and best loved magicians. ‘Magician Impossible’ aired in over 180 territories worldwide, reaching over 400 million cumulative viewers globally.

Here in New Zealand, the first series topped the audience viewing figures for 2013 – our #1 most watched show on TV. Subsequent shows and series had audience figures through the roof with Dynamo having one of the most popular shows in New Zealand television history.

“spell-binding” – The Guardian

With his ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ Live Tour, Dynamo has taken his magic to unprecedented heights, performing 127 shows in over 10 countries to 600,000+ magic fans across the continents. This includes being the first magician in history to headline the legendary O2 Arena in London. He did this not once, but three times!

“the face of modern magic” – The Times

Over the last six years, Dynamo’s ascent from unknown, working class magician hailing from the poverty-stricken Delph Hill estate on the outskirts of Bradford, to multi-award-winning global superstar, has been nothing short of miraculous. Dynamo`s approach - the big stunts are never pre-publicised and use well known landmarks as their backdrop - has allowed him to connect with young people and re-energise the genre in a way not seen for a generation. He’s the closest thing to a real life, comic book, super hero you will ever meet on the street or see on the stage!

“Stunning!” – Metro

The critically acclaimed live tour ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ quickly erupted from a 10-date run into a touring behemoth, a story of sold-out arenas with multiple extra shows being added to meet the phenomenal interest. Over 400,000 tickets were sold across the UK and the Australian tour in late 2016 doubled in size to sixteen arenas selling over 100,000 tickets! This will be the first time the ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ Live tour has been to New Zealand.

“Seeing his live show really is believing!” – The Daily Mirror

Dynamo has been awarded the highest accolade by the magic circle with his promotion to Member of the Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star, a position only held by 300 magicians worldwide, including HRH Prince of Wales.

“a global phenomenon” – The Sun

Dynamo said of his live stage venture: “After four series of ‘Magician Impossible’, I was ready for a new challenge and for a long time I wanted to take my show to the stage. Like I did for magic on TV, the live magic show offers fans an entertainment experience never seen before. I can’t wait to amaze New Zealand audiences with what I have in store for them.”

“mind-boggling” – The Evening Standard

But it is Dynamo’s contribution to magic that is his most compelling achievement to date. A recipient of the prestigious ‘Magician of the Year’ award from the Academy of Magical Arts (often referred to as the ‘Oscars of Magic’), Dynamo has redefined the shape of modern magic for the millennial generation much like Blaine in the late 90’s and David Copperfield in the 1980’s.

The autobiographical nature of Dynamo’s shows coupled with incredible close-up magic and a Banksy-esque approach to large scale illusion have allowed him to connect with young people and re-energise the genre in a way not seen for a generation. With over 8 million fans across social media and over a billion online views laying testament to this impact, he has quickly secured himself as the most followed magician in the world.

It is this impact that has helped Dynamo transcend the world of magic to become a bonafide pop culture icon, with giants from the worlds of music, film and sport enthralled by his performances. Brad Pitt made a surprise visit to watch Dynamo’s live show with his kids, as did fashion icon Kate Moss and artist Damien Hirst. Will Smith called Dynamo’s performance “Absolutely astonishing” and Cristiano Ronaldo and Jay-Z have both hired him to perform at private functions.

But despite his undeniable success and ever expanding trophy cabinet, Dynamo remains a humble student of the magical arts, spending most of his time in isolation, honing the skills and ideas necessary to amaze and enthrall his audiences. In a recent interview, Dynamo said “I honestly believe people need magic in their lives as it brings a sense of hope and wonder that is often lost in the day to day.”

New Zealand fans will now have their chance to add a bit of that magic into their lives when Dynamo brings his ‘SEEING IS BELIEVING’ Live Tour to our shores in 2018.
