Review: Lennon: Through a Glass Onion

We are really very lucky to live in a country such as New Zealand.

A lesson learned when an acclaimed international show arrived on our shores; we should always find the time, the money and good company to enjoy stellar performances.

'Lennon: Through a Glass Onion', which was directed, written and starred in by John Waters. A show that has received not merely the blessing of the one and only Yoko Ono but is acclaimed internationally.

It is not often that a monologue show can hold the attention of the people and captivate the Audience. It is the story of John Lennon "Through a Glass Onion", through his childhood in Liverpool to his death in Manhattan by carefully introducing all his connections in his life such as Yoko, Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan for example. The story shows us just how sensitive, young and different Lennon truly was.

One of the fine treats of the show was the fantastic music. The singing was accompanied by a great piano and Water in the playing the guitar. Bill Risby that has played for Leo Sayer and The Supremes was in charge of the piano.

The atmosphere was amazing! The piano and the acoustic guitar created a warm lush ambience. It was a very well executed monologue that had a great splash of music and Lennon memories.

John Waters is no stranger to the stage. He has been working hard in the industry for over 40 years. As a theatrical performer, John has starred in all of the classics from Hair through to Godspell, from My Fair Lady to The Sound Of Music.

Waters wrote and started performing this show back in 1992 and has toured the world and of course made a special stop in Liverpool, Lennon’s hometown. Everywhere the show has been performed it has received great accolade.

This production is being staged over four nights only at The Civic until Saturday 13th.

If you like great music or if you are a Lennon fan or enjoy being entertained this show shouldn’t be missed.
