Rhythm and Alps Announces LineUp

The Southern Lakes’ biggest New Year’s party, international music festival Rhythm and Alps (R&A), has announced a star-studded lineup for the 2015 event.

The hugely popular two-day music festival, held in the Cardrona Valley near Wanaka on December 30-31, has announced its first installment of artists for this year’s fifth anniversary celebration.

One of the world’s biggest and most respected DJs and producers, British house and techno DJ Carl Cox, will command the stage after midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Also lined up to play on December 31 are Australian party rock band Sticky Fingers – regarded as a “must-see act” with their mix of psych, rock and reggae – and local rising stars electronic duo Arma Del Amor will play the main stage.

American rapper and hip hop artist Chali 2NA, the front man of 1990s hip hop group Jurassic 5, returns to R&A to play a live hip hop show with his band The House of Vibe onDecember 31. Award-winning Melbourne rapper Remi and internationally-renowned Kiwi glitch artist Opiuo will also perform with his full live band on December 30.

Other top international acts include German duo Âme, Canadian funk chef Stickybuds and underground tech rockers Kaiser Souzai join USA’s electronic artist Machinedrum and London dubstep pioneer Mala, all playing December 30.

NZ acts Weird Together, Electric Wire Hustle, Ahoribuzz and Out of Sorts debut at R&A on December 31.

Drum and Bass music also features heavily at the festival on the Where the Wild Things Are (WTWTA) stage with Christchurch DnB promoters Bassfreaks hosting Brazil’s DJ Marky – arguably the world’s best drum n bass DJ – plus Ed Rush and Optical and the UK’s Dub Phizix & Strategy, all on December 30.

R&A festival director Alex Turnbull says it’s fitting that the fifth annual event will host the strongest festival lineup to date.

“We’ve got an unprecedented first announcement of a talent-packed roster of artists over two days and we expect the lineup to appeal to a wide range of music lovers of all ages,” he says.

“With more live music than ever before, and set in the stunning, iconic location in the Cardrona Valley, R&A 2015 will be the place to be for New Year’s Eve celebrations.”

A second line up announcement and sponsor partnerships will be announced in the coming month.
