Mana Wahine Fundraiser for South Auckland Women's Refuge
Okareka Dance Company has announced it will be donating all funds from ticket sales for the 7.30pm Friday July 25th performance of Mana Wahine to South Auckland Women's Refuge.

Mana Wahine is influenced by the true story of Te Aokapurangi, a young maiden from Rotorua who was captured in battle by a tribe from the Far North and many years later she returned and single handily saved her people from slaughter. The story of Te Aokapurangi has been the pivotal inspiration behind this work. Her courage, determination and fearlessness fuels the choreographic style explored in this exciting new piece.

Mana Wahine is co‐choreographed by company artistic directors Taiaroa Royal and Taane Mete with guest choreographer Malia Johnston, and features an all‐female cast of five dynamic dancers. The performance features waiata, haka and dance, with Okareka Dance Company general manager Rachael Penman saying, “Our values align strongly with the wonderful work of the team at South Auckland Women’s Refuge, and we see a particularly strong link with this work which celebrates the strength, power and mana of women.”

Mana Wahine will be at Mangere Arts Centre from 25-27 July. Tickets for the fundraiser performance are available here. The rest of the tour dates are below.
