Kora, Ladi6 and dDub to Play Whangarei Fritter Festival

Venues and Events Whangarei are excited to announce the line up for the Whangarei Fritter Festival on Saturday 29 March at Toll Stadium

“Headlining the festival will be Kora, one of New Zealand’s most powerful live bands, joined by Ladi6dDubKurfew and Juice on the Loose. M.C. for the festival will be Northland Comedian and Kiwi Faves host Aaron Beard,” said Venues and Events Marketing and Events Manager Rachel O'Gorman.

“With another great line-up of acts, combined with great food, wine, entertainment and music, the Whangarei Fritter Festival is well on its way to becoming a feature on New Zealand’s calendar of summer music events.”

Kora’s 2007 self-titled album solidified the group as one of New Zealand’s most popular acts, shooting to the top of the NZ album chart and going double platinum. Kora’s unique style masterfully connected the dots between funk, rock, reggae, metal, hip hop and electronic rhythms, while its live shows were lauded as festival favourite performances and its tours sold out across the country. With the release of ‘Light Years’ in 2012, space has been its final frontier with Kora mapping a new constellation that warps between future-shocked funk, soul and r’n’b and has been self-dubbed ‘alien funk’.

Ladi6 has been a vital part of the NZ hip hop scene since its inception. In 2008, ten years on from her first gig, she released her debut award winning album, Time Is Not Much, with production by Parks and Mu (Fat Freddy’s Drop).Ladi6 picked up two New Zealand Music awards in 2011 (Best Urban album and Best Female Artist), two Pacific Music Awards (Best Pacific Urban album and Best Female Artist) and ‘The Liberation Of…’ won the prestigious Taite Music Prize.

dDub is one of New Zealand’s best loved live acts. Engaging and uplifting, the dDub crew propels its way seamlessly through a powerful and non-stop reggae/roots explosion. Horns, harmonies, and hands-high dDub tunes combine to create an elevating musical experience not to be missed. Renowned for their ‘cranking and skanking’ live shows, the band never fails to connect with the crowd and they have become firm favourites at many nationwide outdoor festivals in NZ.

Kurfew is one of Whangarei’s most loved covers bands. An accomplished professional team with a strong female vocals supported by talented musicians, Kurfew has been entertaining crowds for nine years. Juice on the Loose is a rhythm and blues band based in Auckland whose music covers such blues heavy weights like Robben Ford, BB King, Eric Clapton, John Mayer, Robert Cray and Tedesci Trucks.
