Young Sid

Young Sid, the charismatic member of Smashproof along with Tyree and Deach, presents with this album, an intrepid journey into the world of modern-day South Auckland, a world where there are no rules except survival by any means necessary.

“Growing up is rough where I’m from.” Young Sid explains, “I’m not saying I’m the only one to go through it because this upbringing happens all around the country, but I plan to be the voice of the struggling people with similar backgrounds to mine.”

The role of spokesperson for an often unheard, overlooked and misunderstood generation is one Young Sid takes very seriously, “I’m no wannabe . . . I’m me . . . that dude that’s talking about stuff that not many people know or believe happens in New Zealand.”

With an outstanding work ethic and dedication to perfecting his craft, The Truth is the product of Young Sid’s visit to New York City in 2006 - the home of Hip-Hop - where he recorded with famed hip-hop producer Cochise (Remy Ma, Beatnuts) and learnt to hone his craft with such perfection, that upon his return to New Zealand, he is quickly becoming revered amongst his local peers by gracing a wide range of local mix CD projects and singles – including both Juse and Tyree’s albums, DJ Sir-Vere’s Major Flavours Australian video/title track ‘Turn It Up’, and the all-star line up on PNC’s ‘Who Better Than . . . ’ remix, in which Young Sid more than matched the performances of his fellow MCs, and shone as the only artist without a full length release on the shelves.

Spending three weeks in New York recording, Young Sid is no stranger to the grind and is a prolific writer with a great volume of quality material not yet heard by the general public.

He is influenced by a lot of local and international artists, which help him keep the “grind mentality” and the creativity flowing.

Make no mistake, with a barrage of life experiences and a lyrical prowess, Young Sid is a force to be reckoned with, and one that will provide perhaps the most relevant social commentary New Zealand music has ever heard and a work ethic unparalleled; Young Sid is The Truth.
