SATURDAY 26th APRIL 'WESTERN LINE' Jazz quartet  Live @ Lopdell
Many of you will remember 'Toby and the Rest' a young jazz quartet that played several times at Lopdell in the past. Having gone through university the members are now spreading their wings out into the music World.
Now following in their footsteps you get the chance to see/hear another group of amazingly talented musicians starting out on their journey, 'Western Line' are named after the train line used by them to get to rehearsals and jams.
The band has won various awards at national and local competitions, saxophonist Ben Ridsdale has won the 'Outstanding Soloist' award 3 times in National competition, other members of the band are Francis Gallichan-Stewart on piano, Claude Wedde on double bass, Ruhan Ediweera-Wjesuriya on drums. The quartet recently played a two hour set at the Auckland Jazz and Blues Club and got a standing ovation.
For this special LIVE @ LOPDELL concert they will be playing a varied programme of modern jazz and thier own arrangements of standards from Stan Getz, Hank Mobley, Chet Baker, Sonny Rollins, maybe a touch of Coltrane, and tunes from more modern day composers such as Joe Chambers and Joshua Redman, and New Zealand’s very own Norman Meehan.
