Cantando Choir will be performing W.A. Mozart’s Requiem in D minor, K. 626, a work that continues to captivate audiences with its emotional depth, dramatic intensity and beautiful melodies.
The Requiem was written in the last months of Mozart’s life in 1791. Commissioned by an anonymous patron, it was left unfinished at the time of Mozart’s untimely death. His student Franz Xaver Sussmayr, completed the work, which includes some of the most powerful choral and orchestral moments in all classical music. From the stormy Dies Irae to the serene Lux Aeterna, the Requiem explores the complexities of the human condition.
“This performance will showcase the Requiem’s grand choral passages and deeply emotional solos, brought to life by the upcoming voices from the University of Waikato and some of our finest local musicians” says Music Director Koli Jayatunge.
Dr Jonathan Dunlop and Dr Rachael Griffith-Hughes will perform with the choir and soloists using one piano and four hands.
Soloists: Anna Leese, Szilvia Hernyak, Ivan Zhang, Edward Smith.

Tickets available from info@cantando.org.nz or from Ticketek (booking fees apply).
