Noe Coward's Private Lives, a comedy of manners, is set in 1930. Amanda and Elyot divorced five years earlier after a tempestuous marriage so imagine their horror when they discover they have booked adjacent rooms with a shared balcony for their respective honeymoons with new spouses. Over cocktails in the moonlight, all the passion comes flooding back. Are they older and wiser enough to navigate through the pitfalls that caused them to divorce in the first place?
While written nearly 100 years ago, the script still feels incredibly modern with delightful, complicated, occasionally infuriating characters who show off the weirdness and complications of their private lives.
